What makes people develop earbuds? Samsung has found a deceptively simple answer

When announcing the Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro at Unpacked 2026, Samsung shared not only a few technical details but also a few fun facts about the earbuds and their users.
First, Samsung says they used around 10,000 measurements to achieve a comfortable fit for the Buds 4 series. Ear shapes don’t change every year, so why does every new generation of Buds seem to require thousands of data points and new simulations instead of using previous test data?
We’re not sure, but it’s possible that design improvements are iterative, and new Buds designs need more testing to ensure the best possible fit. In any case, Samsung also ran thousands of tests. And it doesn’t end there.
How many Galaxy Buds users are there?
Samsung did not share the exact number of Buds users worldwide. However, it says that 58% of all Galaxy phone users rely on Galaxy Buds on a daily basis.
In other words, Buds are ubiquitous, considering the millions of phones sold by Samsung every year.
The number of Galaxy Buds in use could grow even higher now that many Galaxy phones – including budget models – have ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack, which has contributed to widespread adoption.

While developing the Galaxy Buds 4 series, Samsung tried to target the main reason people upgrade their headphones. Such information can lead to better Buds design, drive higher sales, and keep customers happy.
The ending is refreshingly simple. Yes, the Galaxy Buds are packed with smart features, and the Buds 4 can even recognize head gestures.
But according to Samsung, the The biggest incentive to buy new earbuds is the sound quality. Additional features are welcome, but at the end of the day, audio performance is more important.
This may explain why Samsung dropped the Blade Lights on the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro and doubled down on the sound and quality of life features.
And in a recent statement on SamMobile, Samsung confirmed that it has also considered other usability features.
We considered various features and found that in our data, features such as the redesigned touch surface on premium, real brushed metal blades were important to our customers.
In Unpacked, Samsung says the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro have 20% larger speakers, which should deliver fuller, richer sound with strong bass and high-frequency tones.
So, even though we were a little disappointed to see the Blade Lights gone after one generation, we can’t help but appreciate the other qualities of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
As we found out before our review, the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro are really comfortable to wear and deliver amazing sound.
