Which vehicles support the car key in Apple Wallet?


At WWDC 2020, Apple announced a new car key feature that allows people to use the Wallet app on their iPhone or Apple Watch to control their car. While adoption of this feature is slow, scroll down below for a complete list of vehicles that support Apple car key integration.

What is an Apple car key?

This feature allows users to add their car key to the Wallet app, and then use the wallet app to lock, unlock and start their cars. While specific uses vary by car manufacturer, there are a few different ways the Apple Car Key feature can be used:

  • A flawless entry: Approach your car with your device, it unlocks, start your car when you’re inside, and walk your car with your phone, it locks.
  • Proximity: Lock, unlock, and start the car by holding your device near the door handle or key reader.
  • Remote: You can use your device to remotely lock and unlock your car, and use other features.

The car key feature also includes support for Express Mode. This feature allows you to use your car key without unlocking your device, or authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode. The Wallet app also supports sharing your car keys using things like Messages, Mail, and AirDrop.

And if your iPhone dies? You can still use it as a car key for up to five hours after the fact. Pretty impressive stuff.

GM also announced that it will soon introduce a car key for some of its systems. Chinese manufacturer Jetour is also about to release the key to the car.

Currently, these are the cars that Apple says support the car key. Ideally, adoption will continue to grow, but we’ll have to wait for more announcements from automakers to know for sure.
