The Viture Luma Ultra glasses are a bit disappointing at the moment, but the combination of a surprising Cyberpunk look and the promise of local content means that these are going to be smart glasses indeed.

The Viture Luma Ultra is now available after months of waiting, and I’ve been using them for a few weeks now to see how they compare to the best smart glasses. While these are the best pairs Viture has made to date, a few missing features hold them back from true greatness.
But before we jump into that, let’s take a look at what the Viture Luma Ultra is and how it differs from other thick Viture smart glasses. In a nutshell, the Luma Ultra improves on the Luma Pro experience by adding a brighter display, two more cameras, and 6DoF tracking. Viture debuted its Luma series with the Viture Luma Pro in July, marking the first smart glasses from the company to ship with a built-in camera.

Viture Luma Ultra enhances the experience with a total of three cameras: one on the bridge of the nose and two on the outer sides of each lens. This enables Viture Luma Ultra to provide full 6DoF spatial tracking, so virtual screens float in place no matter how fast or moving you are. The trick is that you have to use Viture’s Spacewalker software to make 6DoF work.
In this way, it feels like Viture is still stuck in the past, as the Xreal One can do 6DoF with. anywhere video output device, no software required. You need an additional Xreal Eye camera for those glasses, but the final cost is still less than the Viture Luma Pro, making it hard to recommend the Luma Pro if you’re just going for a straight plug and play smart display glasses.
This plug-and-play nature makes the Xreal One a better recommendation for anyone, although some people may prefer Viture for a few reasons. Viture Luma Pro sports the brightest Sony micro-OLED displays on the market, with up to 1500 nits of DC-dimmed brightness (no PWM). That’s great for certain situations where automatic lens tinting isn’t enough to block bright natural light, but I haven’t found a situation in my personal life where it’s needed.
Viture’s Spacewalker software is also more feature-rich than anything Xreal offers, so while the Xreal One is the better plug-and-play pair, the Viture Luma Pro offers more options for power users with smartphone or PC/Mac apps, such as quick shortcuts and multi-track windows. That makes it feel like a VR headset because of the capability.
Viture also offers manual tracking, which can be played all the time but has been largely relegated to the company’s tech demos and short games for now. I won’t buy glasses of this quality, even if they are cool.
The real reason to buy Viture over the competition is twofold: automatic 3D videos and broad ecosystem compatibility. Viture’s Pro Mobile Dock makes it possible to use these glasses with the Switch 2, something no other type of smart glasses they can apply, due to Nintendo’s infamous hardware lockout. Xreal will soon have an answer to this with the Xreal Neo adapter, but that is not yet available and does not have an official release date.
Another reason to get them is Viture’s Immersive 3D video, which I checked out a few months ago and found to be great voodoo magic. Viture’s Spacewalker app converts automatically anywhere video in 3D using built-in AI processing, and it works almost flawlessly. The UI is weird at times, but nothing else on the market offers this functionality, and it’s amazing for anyone looking for 3D content without an official source.
If you want simple plug-and-play location tracking that works with any device, the Xreal One or Xreal One Pro are the best choices. If you’re looking for ecosystem-wide compatibility and powerful multi-user settings for features like 3D video or multi-monitor support, Viture Pro or Ultra is a good choice. I wish Viture could support location tracking without requiring additional software.
