5+ Things You Should Know About Siri Chatbot Coming to iOS 27

We’re less than three months away from getting our first look at Apple’s smarter, redesigned version of Siri. iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 will focus on updates to Siri, and rumors about what to expect next.
There is a full chatbot version of Siri in the works, which will change the way we use Apple’s personal assistant. Siri will be like Claude or ChatGPT, which marks a huge improvement in how Siri works and what it can do.
SiriBot
With iOS 27, Apple will change the way Siri works. Currently, Siri can answer common questions and complete simple tasks, but you can’t engage her in a back-and-forth conversation, get help with multi-step tasks, or ask complex questions.
Based on current Siri chatbot rumors, Siri will be able to do all that and more with future upgrades, and will work just like competing chatbots.
Apple originally didn’t plan to launch a full chatbot like ChatGPT, but chatbots have become too popular for Apple to ignore. Simply adding AI capabilities to apps and features isn’t enough for Apple to stay competitive as people have embraced chatbots for everything from web searches to coding assistance.
Google has already integrated Gemini into its Android device system, and chatbots like ChatGPT have hundreds of millions of active users every week.
Standalone Siri App
When Siri evolves into an Apple-designed chatbot, it will launch alongside a standalone Siri app. The Siri app will look similar to apps from other companies like OpenAI, which show a grid or list of past conversations.
Siri will support text and voice-based conversations, and there will be options for favorite conversations, searching for content within conversations, starting new conversations, and saving conversations. Conversations with Siri will apparently be similar to iMessage conversations, where Apple takes chat bubbles.
New conversations will start with suggested instructions for what users can ask Siri.
Deep Integration
While there will be a standalone Siri app for back-and-forth conversations, Siri will be deeply integrated into Apple devices at the system level. Siri will be activated the same way as today, by saying the word Siri once or pressing the side button of a Siri-enabled device. Siri will be able to respond to both voice and text requests.
Siri Skills
Siri will be able to do much of what current chatbots can do, such as search the web with rich visual results, provide summaries, and inspect uploaded documents. The personal assistant is yet to be integrated into Apple devices. The Siri integration will replace the current Spotlight search, but Apple plans to keep and expand Siri Suggestions. Siri Suggestions will have more access to user data to provide more relevant information.
- Search the web for information
- Produce pictures
- Produce content
- Summarize the information
- Analyze the uploaded files
- Use personal data to complete tasks
- Import information from emails, messages, files and more
- Analyze open windows and on-screen content to take action
- Manage device features and settings
- Search for content on the device, instead of Spotlight
Siri will also be integrated into Apple’s core apps, including Mail, Messages, Apple TV, Xcode, and Photos. Siri will be able to search for specific photos, edit photos, help with coding, make suggestions for TV shows and movies, and send emails.
A New Look
Chatbot Siri will have an updated look with a dedicated app. Activating Siri will have a new animation prompting the user to search or ask a question, too BloombergMark Gurman says Apple is testing a version of Siri integrated with Dynamic Island. Apple’s test interface includes a glowing Siri icon and a “searched” label on the Dynamic Island while Siri processes a request, and when it’s done, Siri expands into a large panel that lights up with results. Pulling down the menu starts the dialog interface.
Apple may also include an “Ask Siri” button in the menus of some apps, giving users a way to send content directly to Siri along with the request. The iOS keyboard can get a Write with Siri option on top of the writing tools.
Memory
Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini can remember previous conversations and interactions, saving the user’s memory. Apple is said to be discussing how much the Siri chatbot will be able to remember.
Apple may limit chat memory to protect user privacy.
Third Party Chat Integration
Apple will allow third-party AI chatbots to integrate with Siri in iOS 27. Apple already has a partnership with OpenAI that allows Siri to answer questions on ChatGPT, but that integration will extend to chatbots from other companies like Google and Anthropic.
An iPhone user with the Claude or Gemini app installed will be able to send questions from Siri to those chatbots, similar to how the OpenAI integration works today.
iPhone users will be able to choose which services they want to use within Siri by using the new “Extensions” option coming to the Siri and Apple Intelligence section of the Settings app.
Promised features of iOS 18
Apple Intelligence Siri features originally planned for iOS 18 will be introduced in iOS 27, and Siri will be able to use personal data and context to answer questions. Siri will also be able to do more within and between apps, and will be able to see what’s on the user’s screen. Apple has promised that those features will appear before the end of 2026.
Basic Architecture and Servers
Apple has struck a deal with Google that will see Gemini power future versions of Siri. Apple plans to use Gemini in the Siri chatbot and other Siri features coming to iOS 27.
“Apple and Google have entered into a multi-year partnership in which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technologies,” the two companies said in a statement in January.
The Siri chatbot will rely exclusively on a custom AI model developed by the Google Gemini team. Gurman says the custom model is comparable to the Gemini 3, and is more powerful than the models Apple built in-house.
Apple and Google are also discussing using the Siri chatbot on Google’s servers powered by Tensor Processing Units, perhaps because Apple does not yet have the infrastructure to handle chatbot queries on the billions of devices that are active per day.
Effective Date
Apple plans to introduce Siri’s chatbot capabilities when it announces iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 at its June Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins Monday, June 8. It’s unclear what Siri features Apple will be ready to reveal, and some may be planned for future updates.
