Apple Teaches Swift and Robotics Across Its India Supply Chain

Apple today announced a new Education Center in Bengaluru as part of an expanded effort to provide technical training and skill development to employees across its supply chain in India.

Apple said the new Apple Education Hub in Bengaluru will serve as a training and networking center for supply chain workers in India, marking the company’s first education center in the country. The institute will start offering courses in March and is working in partnership with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, which will provide skills and curriculum support focusing on digital learning and the Swift program.

Along with the Bengaluru hub, Apple is expanding its collection of development courses to more than 25 supplier locations across the country. The revised curriculum will be introduced first through Tata Electronics and is designed to integrate digital literacy, Swift coding, robotics, automation technology, and smart manufacturing processes. Apple said the offerings are funded through its $50 million global Supplier Employee Development Fund, which supports education and skills training programs across the company’s supply chain.

The same spirit of innovation drives our products and guides our commitment to supporting people throughout our global supply chain. We are very excited to expand our technical training courses in India, giving thousands of employees the opportunity to learn new valuable skills and explore new avenues for career growth.

The company said the new courses build on an existing portfolio of more than 75 programs available to supply chain workers in India. Offerings include technical skills, professional development, health education, and rights awareness training, which Apple says is designed to ensure employees are informed about workplace standards and protections. Apple is working with international organizations and local partners to deliver these programs.

Apple’s expanded training effort also includes plans to scale its robotics learning program, which is launching in India in December 2024. The program focuses on training factory teachers in dedicated robotics labs, after which those teachers adapt the materials and conduct hands-on sessions within their facilities. Apple said it plans to expand the robot program to other supplier locations in India later this year.

Apple also announced plans to expand its Vocational Education program for people with disabilities in India. The program recently launched with Salcomp also aims to provide job opportunities and professional development for people with disabilities within the Apple supply chain, as well as to improve safety, accessibility, and inclusive practices in production areas. To date, the program has supported more than 18,000 employees worldwide and builds on Apple’s partnership with Enable India.
